At
International Christian School we use the High Reach Learning
Curriculum. High Reach is an early childhood education program whose
curriculum is a wonderful, fun year long and day-to-day program that
is aligned with State and National standards. This curriculum is
based on the philosophy that children learn best through hands-on
activities. The High Reach Program is designed to stimulate
development, and to address the needs of the whole child - socially,
emotionally, physically and intellectually.
High Reach Learning reflects the belief that children need a balance
of child-initiated and teacher-facilitated activities each day. The
structure and level of learning activities are geared to the child's
development level. At International Christian School we use three
High Reach Programs, the Tender
Time
Program for our two year olds, the Caterpillar Program for our three
year olds, and the Butterfly Program for our four year olds. These
programs are designed by experienced educators. Every year these
programs are re-written to meet the changing needs of children and
to keep the materials fresh and up-to-date. Each month is designed
around a theme with related concepts and skills woven into these
themes. Monthly themes are used to introduce information and
learning takes place as a child explores and manipulates real
objects and events in a meaningful fun way, using songs, rhymes,
puppets, games, stories, math manipulation and other hands on
activities.
Some of the skills that are emphasized in the High Reach Program are
color, shape, number, and letter recognition, beginning sounds,
large and small motor skills, language development, short
vowel
sounds, blending, sequencing, predicting, graphing, one-to-one
correspondence, patterning, problem solving, estimation as well as
character education.
The High Reach Program provides easy-to-use assessment tools so that
teachers can easily track each student's progress. Lesson plans are
easy to modify and can be individualized for a wide variety of
ability levels. Materials to keep parents involved in the learning
process are also provided on a weekly basis, with additional daily
parent/child activities provided on-line at

According to one of our teachers with many years of teaching
experience:
"…the High Reach Learning Curriculum is an exciting, all inclusive
preschool program which encourages a love for learning, promotes
family involvement in a fun and playful way and enhances the
development of readiness skills".
